Software Developer in Test- 18m FTC

Working with us, you’ll be at heart of the technological revolution of one the world’s most trusted betting and gaming companies. We deal with projects ranging from widgets, desktop or mobile casinos and betting sites just to name a few. We process 500 online Sportsbook bets per second each Saturday, that’s the same as orders processed by Amazon UK, on its busiest day of the year.

As a Software Developer in Test (SDIT), you will work with your engineering team to define the tooling, processes, patterns and practices in use across our software development life cycle to ensure quality is baked into the product.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and maintain test strategies, regression and cross-feature plans, and test cases, either manual, non-functional or automation
  • Develop trusted relationships with product owners and engineers to gain an in-depth understanding of key business processes, products and services
  • Work with your software engineering team to ensure the software being released into Production is of the appropriate standard
  • Taking accountability for ensuring software is fully tested, of an acceptable quality, observable, and always monitored, to verify it is reliable and requirements are met
  • Adopt good test engineering practices encouraged from Quality engineering community of practices, and supporting appropriate parties, where necessary, to transform new or theoretical approaches into productive test engineering processes
  • Be a versatile and efficient problem solver who is able to bring their experience and knowledge in order to help teams resolve and overcome technical tasks and resolve problems by providing guidance and direction
  • Commit to helping deliver high quality, well tested software and to support those around you to do the same, by ensuring the people around you are continually motivated, mentored and supported where necessary
  • Keep up to date on the industry, seek out and promote ideas and techniques in the community, both within William Hill and externally, through blogs or events. Bring forward new ideas, drive for consistency and standardisation, encourage peer-learning and sharing, and solve common problems

Who we are looking for

  • Ability to read production code (JS ES6)an experience of working with node.js, React
  • Notable examples in developing test automation within an Agile environment and in-depth knowledge of HTTP
  • Experience in working with DevOps toolchains such as Kubernetes, Gitlab, AWS
  • Good technical knowledge of patterns, practices, values, tooling and techniques around Testing and Software Engineering as a whole
  • Understand when to test (and when not to) and how software architecture influences the amount of testing needed, including optimizing tests that utilizes the same code paths
