Behind the Bet with Paulina Kantor
We went behind the Bet with Paulina - she's Senior Java Developer in Trading channel working with us for almost a year now! Hear about her career story and interesting things she’s working on!
Tell us a bit about you…
I am a Senior Software Developer in Java with almost 6 years of experience. During that time I was working in small startups and for big companies. I was even kind of freelancer for a year and a half, working 100% remotely from different places of the world. After hours I’m also a mentor in one of the programming schools teaching people how to code in Java.
What part of William Hill do you work in?
I work in Trading channel in Pączki team. We are responsible for creating products to make traders life easier, using cool tech stack for that purpose. My team is now taking care of delivering new types of markets – player’s oriented. We already finished markets for NBA, right now we are working on markets for MLB.
Tell us about your role at William Hill…
In my team I’m responsible for developing new products, maintaining and improving existing ones. I’m also trying to support younger team members and share the knowledge when needed.
How do you Go one better every day?
It’s easy when you have a team like mine :) We support each other in the improvement of our professional and non-professional skills and we’re trying to improve a world around a bit every time.
Personally I have specified goals that guide me. Part of them are about reading more books, go through some courses and get certified. I’m trying to plan my days, weeks and months according to the goals what also makes me more motivated. When you work in technology you can never rest on our laurels, you need to constantly keep yourself up to date.
What do you love about William Hill?
Most of all I love people that work here – I feel I can always count on them and actually be myself around them. We even share similar passions – a lot of people from my team/channel are travellers, so if I want to go somewhere there is a big chance that someone already has been there :)
I also love technologies we’re using in everyday work and the fact that we have a kind of freedom on what we want to use. We can also decide about the architecture of our products, which is really cool.
And finally, tell us something we don’t know about you….
I wanted to be an airline pilot! I even got to the university and became a glider pilot. Right now that hobby transformed to being a traveller, but I’m planning to go back to flying one day! :)
